Obama did mention parents needing to turn off the TV, put away the video games and get involved in their children's education.

Really this is a question of Political posturing, which is there more of? Teachers or parents? And by being blunt and saying what they may really feel who are you more likely to alienate? I know that is a horrible way of looking at things but that’s politics for you.
