my fucked up shoulders: round 2

Mar 19, 2013 22:02

About 2 weeks ago I was playing in the last match of my rugby team's season and tore the labrum in my left shoulder (The labrum is a ring of cartilage that attaches to and extends the effective area of the socket of the shoulder. The labrum helps to stabilize the ball-and-socket joint and serves as an attachment site for ligaments around the shoulder as well as the biceps tendon) So uh..yeah that sucks. I had a feeling that's what I did as soon as it happened (during a tackle -__-) because the exact freakin' thing happened last year with my right shoulder. I only got confirmation today after having an orthopedist look at my MRI film. I got lucky because there was a cancellation, so I'm getting the surgery done on Monday. I fly back to school next Saturday and then a few weeks later do a quick weekend trip back to California to get the stitches out and have my surgeon check my progress. This whole situation is far from ideal. The surgery recovery was rough last time and I was on summer break with my family around to help; I'm gonna be on my own and dealing with school and preparing for intern abroad this summer. The one good part of this that I'm hanging onto is that it's my non-dominant arm this time. Art projects will be rough, but not impossible. I'll be in this monster sling immediately after the surgery until I get the stitches out:

Why is she so smiley? Wearing that sucks.
So..yeah. Fucking fuck. The support and love from my teammates, friends, and family is the only thing keeping me from freaking the hell out over all this.
Gonna go watch Skyfall, finally, and cuddle with my dog. Hope everyone else's life is going better!

fucking screwy shoulders, why is this my life
