Who: Red and Green (CHRISTMAS COLORS OMFG)
What: Red decides that he and Green should write a letter to Yellow, posing as Santa.
When: Earlier this evening? idk
Where: The Oak residence.
Why: Because D'AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Rating: G
Notes: I suck at writing Red, he turned out sounding more like Gold, bawwwwwwwwww.
Red was a man on a mission. He ignored the chilly winds nipping at his face as he sprinted down the beaten roads of Pallet Town, and slowed down only when his leg started spasming a bit. He had to arrive at his destination quickly, though, while he was still pumped up about his awesome idea!
Finally he saw it approaching - Professor Oak's house and laboratory. He wasn't going there to talk to the old professor, though; Oak was probably working on his new radio show in Johto, anyway.
Red made his way to the front stoop, limping a tiny bit, and banged on the door.
Ow. He pulled his fist back towards himself after several rapid knocks and flexed his hand carefully. Stupid cold weather made the symptoms even worse. "Green!!" he shouted, and settled with pressing the doorbell repeatedly instead. "Open up, man, I got a great idea!!"
The door opened after just a few seconds of doorbell-ringing, and there stood Green, looking none too impressed. "You're not usually this obnoxious, Red."
"I'm not being obnoxious, just enthusiastic!" Red retorted, shifting on his feet. Ah, his other leg was starting to cramp up too. "Just let me in, okay? My legs..."
Rolling his eyes, Green opened the door wider, letting his friend and rival into the house. Red limped inside and collapsed onto the couch, rubbing his wrist. He glanced over at the book sitting open at the couch. "Oh, were you reading something?" He studied the cover. "'A Study of New Theories in Pokemon Evolution'...?"
Green scoffed as he went to fix some tea in the kitchen. "Blue snuck in here a couple nights ago and 'borrowed' one of our books. She left that in its place."
Red flipped through the book absently and noticed a slip of paper - a note, it looked like - tucked between the pages. "'I O U heart. Let's trade in the meantime heart heart X O X O.' Yeah, that's Blue all right." He set the book down again, a small smirk tugging at his lips. "I guess old habits do die hard."
"Hn. Not that I'd let her in the house willingly, either." Green returned with two cups of hot tea. "Here, warm up those hands of yours. And don't drop it." He shot Red a stern look before sitting down himself. "So what's this 'great idea' of yours?"
"Oh, right!" Red's face split into a grin. "We should pretend to be Santa and write Yellow a letter in response to the one he wrote to Santa!"
"She."
"...Oh, yeah, she." Red laughed nervously. "So... what do you think?"
Green was silent for a moment. He took a sip of his tea, then finally said, "Why do I have to get involved in this?"
"She's your protégé, right?"
"What does that have to-"
"And also 'cause..." Red put his cup down and held up his hands. "Can't really write too well like this."
Green sighed. "All right, fine." Truthfully, Green didn't mind the idea too much. It would make Yellow happy, and he couldn't stand it when she cried.
Smiling brightly, Red jumped to his feet. "All right, then let's do this! I'll dictate and you'll write. I'll just go get some paper," he said as he started stumbling towards the laboratory.
Green quickly stood up and grabbed Red's wrist to stop him. Ignoring Red's wince, he demanded, "Where do you think you're going?"
"First, can you let go? Now I've got pins and needles all-" He broke off as Green released his grip, then rubbed his wrist, pouting. "I'm going to get some paper to write on from the lab."
"No. You're not going in my grandfather's lab when he's not here." Green smirked a bit, then added, "Haven't you learned your lesson after the last time?"
"That was three years ago!" Red protested, but Green ignored him.
Heading into the hallway, Green called back, "You sit back down before you trip over something. I'll go get some sort of stationery from my sister."
Red sat back down on the couch reluctantly, turning his attention to his hands and feet as he waited. Stupid numbness was getting even worse with the colder weather, not better. Maybe his condition would improve come spring, and then he could take the Gym Leader exam in the summer...
"What are you looking so serious for?"
Red looked up and forced a grin as the other boy returned. "I should ask you that. You're all serious-looking 24/7."
Green didn't answer, and let the subject drop. "Anyway, Neesan had some wintry stationery that we could use." He dropped the stationery on the coffee table and sat back down. "This should work. I'll have to disguise my handwriting though."
"Yeah, good idea."
A moment passed in silence, then Green turned to Red. "Well? Aren't you going to dictate?"
"Oh! Oh yeah!" Red cleared his throat for dramatic effect. "'Dear Yellow.'"
Green raised an eyebrow at his friend. "Genius, Red. I couldn't have thought of that."
"Just start with that, and..." Red dug through his pockets and finally pulled out a folded piece of paper. "Aha! Here it is!"
"What's that?"
"Yellow's letter to Santa. I printed it out so we'd know exactly what to respond to." Red unfolded the letter and took a quick glance over it. "Okay, next... 'Thanks for your letter! It's really great to hear from you, Yellow.'"
Green wrote the words down, making some changes so that it didn't sound as much like it had been written by a certain League Champion.
"'It's really cool that you're asking only for presents for your friends. It's not greedy at all, so don't sweat it!'"
"Sure, make my job harder," Green muttered under his breath.
Red blinked. "What was that?"
"Nothing. Continue."
Shrugging, Red turned his attention back to dictating the letter. "Okay, um... 'I'll do my best to get all the presents you asked for your friends, but maybe not a girlfriend for Kamina, that's kinda tough for Santa. I'll give Red a super cool Pokemon too though!'"
Green stifled a laugh as he completely omitted the last sentence.
"Hey, don't laugh at me! Jerk. Uh, 'You don't have to give me a teddy bear, but milk and cookies would be awesome! Also Rudolph and the other reindeer say hi. Merry Christmas! Love, Santa Claus.'" Red folded the letter and stuck it back into his pocket. "And that's it! How'd it turn out?"
Shaking his head, Green continued writing. "Hold on a moment." Half a minute later, Green put down the pen and sat back. "There."
"I wanna read it!" Red snatched up the letter and eagerly looked it over, though his face started to turn to a frown as he read. "Hey, this isn't what I said!"
"I made it better," Green shrugged.
"Yeah, right. You left out the most important part!" Red made a dissatisfied noise as he finished reading. "And what's this bit at the end? I didn't say any of that."
Green turned his gaze on Red. "Do you disagree with it?"
"Well, no, but..." Red scratched his head uncertainly. "Oh, I guess it's good enough. Let's send it out!"
"I'll go get a Pidgey to deliver it," Green said, standing up.
Red furrowed his eyebrows slightly. "From where?"
"Grandfather's lab," Green answered nonchalantly.
"Hey! You said no one was allowed in there while he's gone!"
"I am. And so is Neesan. But that's about it." He headed for the hallway when Red called out at him.
"Choose one that's okay with flying long distances! It'll need to fly north for a while and then loop around back to Viridian."
Green turned back to Red with a quizzical look on his face. "Why?"
Red gave a sigh, as if what he was suggesting was completely obvious. "Because Santa lives at the North Pole. And we're south of Viridian. It'll be suspicious if the letter comes from the south instead of the north!"
Green wanted to slap his forehead. "I really don't think she'll notice, Red."
"Just in case! We can't be too careful. She has to know that Santa is real you know." Red grinned.
After another sigh, Green turned back to head for the lab. "Fine. A Pidgey with good endurance. Whatever you say."
It would be worth it to make her happy, after all.
Dear Yellow,
Thank you for your letter. It's such a pleasure to hear from you, and I look forward to visiting you for the first time this year.
That's quite an impressive wish list you've sent me. It's very kind of you to ask for presents for your friends, and I'll do my best to fulfill your requests, as best as my Christmas magic can manage. It makes me very happy to see a child so selfless as to wish only for the happiness of her loved ones.
It isn't necessary for you to leave me any extravagant gifts; my job is to give happiness to the children of the world, and it gives me great joy to do so. If you do wish to leave me something, just the milk and cookies will do, as I can get very hungry while driving my sleigh all night.
Yellow, even though you say you don't need anything for Christmas, I want to leave something special for you when I visit. You're such a sweet and strong girl, and you should be proud of those qualities. You certainly deserve something for yourself, and I hope you will accept the gift. You'll have to wait until Christmas to find out what it is, though!
Have a very merry Christmas, Yellow, and never stop being the good child that you are.
Yours Sincerely,
Santa Claus
PS: Rudolph and the other reindeer were delighted to receive your greeting, and offer one in return.
