I'm slowly getting more and more pictures on my computer and ready for posting, so - only three months after I was there:
I'm assuming those are the Rocky Mountains...
After wandering through the craziest parts of the city, Maya and I decided to eat here. It was in Castro, the gay district and I couldn't find one straight person in the place - it was wonderful.
A sign for the Rainbow Family...actually not a gay organization.
Massive gay flag in Castro.
The view from my hotel, looking onto Powell Street.
A little lush - but still very nice.
I had only been in that room a total of 10 minutes before it was already sorta dirty.
The city is honestly one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
And I always thought they exaggerated about the hills...I was wrong.
Burt and Sol in the John Pence gallery where we spent most of the day.
Tanene and Matt relaxing after interviews.
Maya and Lam, again in the gallery.
Somehow we all managed to talk for HOURS. It was wonderful.
This is a view from Buena Vista Park, the road running left to right is Haight Street of Haight-Ashbury fame.
A little more inside the Park.
The Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
The crew that walked the city all day after interviewing. Left to right - Lindsey, Burt, Lam, Chris, Maya and Matt.
Such a beautiful place.
Part of Buena Vista Boulevard in the foreground - million dollar houses built on the crazy hills.
Castro during the daytime. Note that the big round cornered building is a Diesel store. Smartest move ever for a queer-loved clothing store.
This is the mariachi band that serenaded us through dinner in the Mission District (Latino/Mexican area).
Lindsey and Lam later that night in Lam's room.
Burt!
The major high fashion area. Took these next few pictures while on the way to the airport to catch a flight I never made.
Advertising is so much more "bold" there.
Okay, vaulted ceilings in the biggest Forever 21 I've ever seen.
Like I said above, I didn't make my flight because the fucking subway got stuck waiting for the tracks to be adjusted for more than 40 minutes. I ended up having to stay in the airport for a good 9 hours. I slept on the world's most uncomfortable bench next to a homeless guy and a Mexican that kept trying to vacuum my belongings during the night.
For those of you who don't know I was in San Francisco to interview for a scholarship from the Point Foundation. www.thepointfoundation.org They give scholarships to queer youth who have been marginalized by their sexuality and need help paying for higher education. A few weeks after getting home from San Francisco I got a call that I will be receiving a scholarship from the Point Foundation that will basically cover all of my needs. From that moment on I haven't stopped smiling - I know this is an amazing opportunity for me.
