Man, I need to stop being polite when dealing with unsolicited sales calls. I'm fine with our credit card processing service, I'm fine with our bookkeeper and tax accountants and don't fucking tell me how much more effective my advertising dollar could be and how to boost my online presence - if I had the time and inclination, I would do something ( Read more... )

Back when I was having to do that shit, we were not allowed to disconnect the call until we had the third no. I could have lost my job for it. So.. now I deal with it with

"no, No, NO. Have a nice day" *click*

Usually the people who call on the phone are working a PT job at nearly minimum wage. They don't get many breaks. They read from a bad script. They are monitored like convicts in transit.

I just say "No thank you." I do it in under 10 seconds. It is a favor to those poor people. If I get a lot of calls from the same company, I then say, "Please put me on your do-not-call list." That has worked for many years, but since we have several phone lines, I have to do it several times. We have been on the national do-not-call list for years.
