representatives of some group came to my school to encourage us to register to vote. they brought a slide presentation run from a laptop. the woman who was speaking, while introducing the members of the organization present, mentioned that a guy was there running the laptop because she "didn't know how to work that thing ( Read more... )

I of course don't know why she'd say that. Obviously, if she indeed didn't know how to run the thing, she wouldn't be doing it.
If it helps, I'm a guy, and I don't know how to use PowerPoint either.
More to the point, though, we do still have residual gender roles, and whether they're right or wrong doesn't eliminate them from our society.
However, I think you're right; it seems that women do this more often. Maybe it's that they're less egotistic than most guys.  ;-)

if it makes you feel any better none of my uncles seem capable of setting up an account on yahoo let alone turning on a computer. They're still living in the 70's, apparently. ;] Pretty eggs, by the way.
