All year, I've been plotting a way to end up with an HDTV, DVR, home theater setup without breaking the bank.

maisimai and I have gone back and forth on which component was more important to do first, whether to roll our own DVR or buy a Tivo HD, what option cost least, etc ( Read more... )

I ran KnoppMyth for a year or so, and it worked just fine; but it wasn't easy to use for anything else. I'm *much* happier with my Ubuntu install of MythTV, and I can also use it for some video editing and other chores as my central home server. I run a separate computer as my main frontend, and my Mac and Ubuntu laptops all run the frontend very well.
