waitaminnit... you even used a similar phrase at the end there, and you omitted Chumbawamba?

*sigh*

;)

I hear ya though - hmm, time to go dig up some older punk meself. (Hee. Twisted Sister.)

Nope, no Chunderwondra ... greenteablues August 17 2006, 15:18:52 UTC
... it's a fine drinking song and all, but it's been beaten to death and it's a bit of a stretch to suggest it's punk. I'll take Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly instead.

On the other hand, I maintain that if you listen to Twisted Sister *without* visuals, surprising punk roots emerge.

Speaking of the '80s, add Madness to my list.
I'll openly admit to including Ska with the rest of my punk.
I was even momentarily *in* the St. Louis Ska scene without knowing it.

A big shout-out to the Skalars, wherever you are...

Some of my favorite work music is a ska/punk playlist.

And I see what you mean about TS - I'd add that I've always considered Nirvana to be the contemporary successor to punk. Still waiting for the new contender. (Although there is some doubt in my heart that Soundgarden isn't actually the more worthy titleholder... *sigh*)

(The Chumbawamba reference was actually a complete joke... while energetic, it's not exactly raw enough.)
