lockdown today

Oct 23, 2007 19:10

We had a lockdown today at school, from about 12:30-1:40.  Roughly an hour in lockdown, which we spent half in semi-serious whispering and half in boisterous bonding games.

At first, it was at the end of lunch and some sophomores, still in their spirit day clown outfits, came running down the hall to Ms. Lin's classroom, yelling stuff like "Oh my ( Read more... )

I don't think you've ever had season to walk around Fremont after hours, roaming the streets (...looking for like-gender companionship), but taking the vibe of Fremont vs SF (where I have been at literally all night long before)...SF feels a hell of a lot safer.

I like that doughnut shop, and the ladies who run it :[

SF is safer? Yeah, Anna told me you were wandering around and didn't get mugged somehow. :P

Yeah...this is probably going to negatively impact business for the donut shop for one or two weeks.

SF is decidedly safer. There's people everywhere, normal ones. And there's cops constantly riding about. Fremont is like a tomb at night.

Sigh. I wana go by and patronize them to help things, if slightly.

yes, we would definitely be screwed
it really bothered me that a lot of people in P6 were acting like NOTHING was going on and that they were being locked inside for no reason

From what I heard of people who were around walgreens and bronco Billy's at the time, I'm fairly certain they weren't oblivious (mostly 'cause they were kind of..well...RIGHT THERE) but they got ushered into the library and the gym and such. Mason ended up in the gym, and the reason why he didn't respond to my text messages was because the librarian had taken his cell phone away. :\

The story's already all over the local news, mostly online. One of the news stations actually got helicopter pictures of the scene. I expect we'll be hearing about it on the broadcasted news tonight and tomorrow morning.

Bleh...I meant to say that Mason ended up in the library. Someone else I know was in the gym.

one incident doesnt mean fremonts not safe. homicide rates at other cities are way higher and they're still deemed safe.

Just because we're "deemed safe" does not mean we're actually safe. Very few places are as safe as we'd like them to be.

So go lock yourself up in your room or something. That'd be safe.

Come on. Fremont is like hella safer than other cities its size. Homicide rate last year was 4. FOUR people. How many people live in Fremont? Just because one person dies doesnt mean its like Oakland.

Besides, i'm not seeing this argument made any other time some dude gets shot. Its just cause of the proximity to the crime that you perceive it to be more prevalent. Theres a psych term for it, but I totally forgot it. I'll go look it up or something.

It was pretty lucky for us, I suppose, that we were that close to a teacher who is pretty much always in her room at lunch... I mean, it only took us two seconds to run into Ms. Lin's classroom ( ... )
