Yes! She even made me a green pepper costume one year for Halloween- with the stem as a hat.
Well, I still think fruits are good! You have no idea how jealous I get thinking about the fruit you guys can grow! Most of the tropical stuff we get in stores isn't worth eating. The only stuff that comes out tasting ok imo is bananas, pineapples and mangoes. The rest of it is just useless. I think they pick it green so it ships but it doesn't ever get good tasting...even if they gas it to force it to look ripe.
Yes, I only planted one variety this year, California Purple, but next year I want to do more.
And I think you're right about the soil- you're going to have to figure out how to do composting in an urban area or buy amendments. And find out what pH your soil is, so you can direct your pile one way or the other. Also! Look what my googling turned up a six month farming apprenticeship in Calamba City. I have no idea if that program is still running, but who knows, it looked pretty interesting, though I don't know when you'd ever have six free months in the future.
I need to be less excite about your garden, I really do. But, I think with some experimenting you can do well! The other thing you can do, if stores there are okay to give away stuff they don't use- is ask grocery stores if they will give your their old or damaged produce that they were going to throw away for your compost. That's what we used to do when I was a kid, but now for some complicated reason I don't understand that's illegal. But, stores usually have all the stuff they trim off too, like outer leaves, plus stuff that arrives bruised, etc. My mom used to get boxes and boxes of stuff like that...and then run it over with the lawnmower to break it up. I don't recommend that though, I don't know how that machine survived. Sometimes my mom is a little insane.
Hee, pretty little zucchini~ I think the crazy weather is doing bad things to my plants (hot and then cold and then hot and then cold etc) but I can hope. I want delicious squash :(
I KNOW IT IS TERRIBLE, AND I DESPAIR. Hopefully you will get some though! Zucchini has got to be the hardiest squash in north america...wait, is that what you have planted?
LOL COCOA. Those are two entirely different things! They have different shapes. Does your squash plant have any little baby squashes on it yet that you can look at? Alternatively, what do the leaves look like, are they deeply inset like fingers on a hand, or are they more rounded? Very dark green, or a more medium green?
Itchy, scratchy work, often done as it gets dark, that's the kind. And I still manage to be lazy about it and not do as much as I should. :( And yes, that is Morris! He wants to chew on all plant matter in the house.
I wouldn't call that lazy at all. I wouldn't have the patience or the will power to do all of that. XD My dad was very big on gardening, but I'm afraid I didn't inherit a whit of his green thumb.
Maybe a cat eating your plants is a sign that they're very nutritious! Or that...you have a very strange cat.
Yes you should! I like nasturtiums a lot actually, I've been thinking if I have anyplace they could go in. I also want to see if I can get my white strawberry going. I'm not sure they'll get large enough this year to have any berries thanks to the weather.

Most glorious glorious garlic! And lovely veggies.
I should try planting zucchini here.
But I should first fix my soil. OTL.
