Number one test-taking advice of all time: fear not. Test can always be retaken.
Number 2 advice: do not cram; preferably, do no study or prep at all in the 24 hours immediately before testing.
Number 3 test-taking advice of all time: establish good general test-taking and critical thinking skills, with plenty of practice and feedback, well ahead of time.
I have scored well on lots of standardized tests, including on stuff I know very little about, largely by critical thinking and familiarity with the construction of standardized tests.
Prep for the writing portion of SAT/ACTs by doing timed writing exercises. I'd gotten out of practice doing timed essays before taking my teaching certification writing exam, and didn't manage my time as well as I could have done.
