WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR "TURN, TURN, TURN" EPISODE 9.16
Greg's willing to do anything for Nick's birthday.
Fast forward the episode a little bit.
Even though it's his birthday, Nick enthusiastically offers to take the case. (The 419 on East Freemont at the "Park Pines Hotel.") He doesn't even get to have a piece of his own birthday cake before he leaves to go process the scene. He is horrified to learn from Brass that the victim is 16 year old Haley. She is the daughter of Mark and Nicole Jones, the owners/runners of the hotel. Nick is especially shocked because he personally knew the girl that was killed.
Rewind exactly 365 days and it shows Nick talking to a living Haley when he had to process the hotel on a prior unrelated case. She's your usual punk teenager who has a special quirk/charm about her. While checking out the DB in the hotel room, Nick and David discover another DB in the attic above them (due to a glob of decomp juice dripping from the ceiling and hitting David square in the face). Nick then decides to investigate further.
Being a curious teenager, Haley decides to talk to Nick while he inspects the attic.
As she's about to leave, Greg enters the doorway.
He stares at her for a moment as if to say, you better not have been talkin' to my man.
Greg: You uh,
Greg: do know the crime scene's in the next room, right?
Greg: I always look for the yellow tape.
Nick: There's something dead up there, Greg.
Nick: It's big, heavy, and it smells awful.
Nick: One of us is gonna have to go up there and get it.
Greg: You know what, it's your birthday.
So Greg climbs up into the disgusting, stench-ridden attic for Nick. Greg: Woo. (heaves) I'm keeping that gift card. (He mumbles this under his breath. But at least he did get Nick a present!)
Nick: Huh? (And apparently Nick doesn't know about it yet meaning that Greg's probably gonna give it to him after shift :x)
Nick: Woo! (Coughs)
Greg: I think I found your big drip.
WARNING: GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF A DECOMPOSING BODY!
*Do not scroll down if you do not want to see*
Greg: Looks like he uh, crawled in the same way I did.
And boy, Nick does not like the smell. He's just lucky that Greg decided to cover for him since it's his birthday and all. As if he wouldn't take care of his Nicky on his birthday.
