Work: Computer Guide

Dec 28, 2007 10:18

I'll be teaching a class on computers for seniors over at the Avalon Library next month, so I thought it might be a good idea to write some sort of guide as a handout. Would anyone be up for proofing the document for errors or readability?

computers_intro.doc (7,479 kb)

Any recommendations would be welcome.

I would rethink how you define File. Files are bits of data. They can be anything from the parts of a program to the data a program uses.

Directory should also include Folder as another name for them.

One anology that I find useful for teaching beginners is to think of the hard drive as a big filing cabinet. The directory is like the drawers and file folders. The files are like the pieces of paper in the file folders.

RAM is like the surface of your desk the more you have the more you can work on at the same time.

:) hopefully that helps.

I sure hope that I don't have to define data. Thanks for the input.
