I've had good experiences with Sprint. Their 3G network has been pretty impressive and robust; I have yet to go somewhere where it doesn't work and has to switch to the slower Edge network. I definitely don't use 5 GB a month, but I have a dumbphone that I use for email and looking things up online plus the occasional Youtube video. *goes to check usage* Between April 15-May 15 I used 23,453 KB and that's on the high end for me.
Also, even though their customer service is supposed to be bad, I've always had an easy time with them. Even switching my number from a prepaid service, which must have been a huge pain in the neck for them because it ran into a lot of snags, was painless on my end.
If you tethered it with Bluetooth to a computer and used the computer to download large things through it, it makes some sense. However, the plan in question oddly does not allow that.
Heh, you've a point. But I really like the idea of being able to use AIM, email, banking, etc. from anywhere, and my current phone either doesn't allow that or would charge me exorbitantly for it, and it's on my parents' plan anyway. But you definitely have a point--my current phone is definitely functional, and pretty new, so it makes a lot of sense to wait awhile before doing this.
I can sympathize. I definitely covet smartphones even though I've no need for them...but yeah, if your parents are paying for your current plan and it's functioning and adequate, I'd stay with that until the contract is up or until your *needs* dictate you upgrade.
