Conversations with a co-worker and recent news got me thinking about writing a peer-to-peer poker program, with no central server. I've already got a rough model for the card game itself written out in Ruby, which I was going to use to practice writing different poker AIs, so "all I need" is an interface, a little networking code, and some crypto ( Read more... )

Hrm. Got a link for that? I've consulted my research assistant, Mr. Google, but he doesn't seem to be familiar with "alcor wildcard" or any of the more obvious variants.

Sadly, that's a different thing. The wildcard code has to connect to a central server, which makes things like tracking what's in the deck and what cards everybody has been dealt pretty easy - the server keeps up with everything and tells clients what they need to know, when they need to know it. Playing poker without a central server, so that you can play a game with strangers, with no trusted third party involved, is a little trickier. :-)

I am, I must admit, a bit curious as to whether I'm replying to some sort of spam bot, but since I don't see you supplying any urls to your fabulous porn/warez/ringtones/trojanz site, I guess I'll assume you're an actual person.
