Today was, well, quiet. Last night was quiet too. The city hasn't been as noisy, though I may just be tuning it out without thinking about it. It might also have to do with the fact that classes have now begun and people are no longer staying out partying as late.

English 215 is going to be, as
meglimir put it, a roll. The instructor described it as simple, the assignments are simple, the book is simple, and I suspect a number of my classmates as being simple (not a shocking discovery, it's a big class). The course will, woefully, use Pearson's MyCompLab as a way to "aid" the instructor by facilitating assignment decrees, homework submissions, registration difficulties, broken links on their site, mysterious "some of the information you provided bellow is incorrect" errors that don't even hint at what is wrong, student frustration, and an assurance that, despite all evidence to the contrary, the new upgraded site is just what the doctor ordered.
As you may have realized, I have used Pearson's wonderful instructor/student interface & interaction service before. Each time I had used it there were claims that their newly upgraded site would solve many of the problems. My guess is that these are backend problems, not to be confused with problems that the users encounter on a regular basis. Oh, and a large chunk of the cost of the textbook is the little card that came with it that has the registration key that allows the unsuspecting victim student to register for the 12 month MyCompLab license.
Despite the once and future irritant of attempting to survive MyCompLab, I'm looking forward to this course.

There was a fire the other day; a chunk of VCU's system was down because of it, and bits of the system have been coming back together. I've been trying since Monday to get my VCU ID card activated, and now that particular system (part of it, at least) has finally been brought back. This means I no longer need to wave a little piece of paper at the security desk every time I want to come in or out of my dorm building.

There's a mandatory meeting for the fourth and fifth floors of my dorm building tonight at 9:30. I plan on going, though almost everyone I've spoken to about it says they're not going. Huh, I guess mandatory means voluntary...*eyeroll*

Day six:
Food supplies are running low; I may have to eat my desk on Monday if I don't swing by a store over the weekend. There's a missed call on my landline phone. It's been there nearly a week. I've located the menu option to delete all messages, but still haven't figured out how to listen to them first. I think the manual is in one of the large bins, but I'm not sure...
