Something that Wri-mes with Mo...

NaNoWriMo is coming up. For those of you who don't know what it is, National Novel Writing Month is a sort of writers' marathon in which the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days starting November 1st.

I've decided to put together a collection of short stories titled "A Collection of SHORT Stories". The theme of the short stories is, as you can probably guess, short. Be it short in stature, patience, or sanity, each story will have a "What if.." feel to them with the variable being less than its real-world equivalent.

I'm getting A's in all my classes. Physics and English are sitting at 100%, Math Applications is at ~96%, and Economics is ~90.6. I've been told by someone working on an economics major that economics becomes a lot more interesting after the first few courses, describing it as sociology with numbers.

Last week was a heck of a ride.

* Monday I got to the dorm and discover that the guy I share the dorm with contracted some sort of illness (flu or something to that effect); this wouldn't be too big a deal except we share a very small enclosed ventilation system, and my room's vent is placed right after his room's vent.

* Tuesday I had an English test. I finished studying an hour before I had to leave for class. I arrived at class, sat down, and decided to skim through the text book real quick to refresh my memory in regards to who what what century; it is at this point I discovered that I had forgotten to read approximately half of the Aeneid. Great. I decide to get up and ask the professor to clarify one of the questions on the test. When I stood up, my card ID holder got caught on the seat and fell off my pocket; not really something to write home about, it happens all the time. I got up, talked to the professor, and sat down. My pencil was missing. Correction, my favorite mechanical pencil was missing and I had neglected to bring a spare. Oh, and remember how my ID holder had popped off? Well, it turns out that the clip broke. In the end I got an 85 on the test, which counts as 3% less on the overall grade than if I had gotten 100%. Combined with the 5 points from extra credit and the 28 points from homework, I'm sitting at 50 out of 50. Still, not exactly a worse-case scenario.

* Wednesday I got up more or less on time and worked on the math homework that was due that day. I thought I had finished with a little time to spare, but then I noticed some ambiguous wording in the instructions. I rushed trying to figure out what the professor meant, but ended up printing off two versions of the homework in case he decided to interpret the instructions one way instead of the other. Moving quickly, I left the dorm at approximately 9:56; Physics class starts at 10:00 sharp, and the walk is 10 minutes at a forced march. I got to my seat at 10:04. Later that day, I was walking back to my dorm when my classmate pointed out some people who were doing something that I identified as a boffer fight; naturally, I joined in the fun. Thirty minutes later I'm walking back to my dorm with a sore lower jaw, sharp pain in my right ear, and the complete inability to lock my back molars together on the right side. Towards the end I had caught a short-but-heavy boffer with the left side of my lower jaw; it was intended for my shoulder, but happened at the same time I ducked. After visiting the chiropractor on Friday I was able to clench my back right molars, and now it only feels a little sore when I wake up in the morning or when I jut my jaw out as far as I can (which, thankfully, is not a frequent occurance).

It's cold outside, I might finally get a chance to wear my trench coat.
