The next week found Xander pouring over Wesley’s notes on the Shanshu prophecy. He wished that he had spent more time with Giles and Willow working on dead languages. In the Scoobies it wasn’t necessary because they had the watcher and when he was gone the slack was picked up by Willow and Anya. Many nights Xander didn’t make his way up to his apartment until after 1am, and Dawn was asleep in her room and he couldn’t even call Willow at that hour to discuss what he had learnt. He had sent her a few e-mails with specific phrases that he was having issues with.
*ping* suddenly came from Xander’s new laptop supplied by Wolfram & Hart.
Xander opened his inbox, thinking it would be a response from Willow, but to his surprise it was Giles. It took Xander a few minutes to open the e-mail and attachment because he simply had to pause and wonder just when the G-man had learnt to use “that dread machine”. He was wary when he arrived in Sunnydale and what happened in sophomore year with Moloch, had only served to make him distance himself even more.

From: Rupert Giles @ The New Watchers Council

Xander,

Willow forwarded me the excerpts you sent her from the Shanshu prophecy from the scrolls of Aberjian
Here is what I have managed to decipher at this point.

The vampire with a soul, once he fulfills his destiny, will Shanshu. Become human - Wesley was correct.
The path to ? will be lighted (eliminated or revealed) by he who is sighted (The one who sees - You)
...
They will connect (reunite?) - This works for your situation as you have reunited with Angel in L.A.
After the end or those who watch the observers, they will reunite.
They will battle? in the ? of the ? and the snake? will curl.

There are still sections we are working on. I will update you when I have more information.

Best of luck,
Rupert Giles

Xander printed off the e-mail and forward it to Wesley so that the watchers could collaborate on the translation. Xander added the printout to the file he was compiling.

“Whelp.” Came from the door to Xander’s office, causing him to jump and send papers flying.
“Spike! Why are you lurking around?”
“Nothin’ better to do. Not a real boy anymore. I can’t even leave the city, I just pop back in to the lobby. Wanna grab a drink? I’m parched.”
Xander paused at this, wondering if their burgeoning friendship would survive an extended period of time in each other’s presence.
“Can you even drink?”
“Only in the lab. Fred and I have been working on picking things up. Sometimes, I even forget that I’m a bleeding spectre.”
“T.V.?”
“Sure.”
Xander thought that watching T.V. would be better. They wouldn’t have to talk and Dawn would invariably hear them and join them on the couch. Xander was glad that Spike was back among them, but they had never spend any extended periods of time in each other’s company without it turning into a fight or blows being exchanged.

Next chapter: Pavayne and then skipping right to Lindsay’s box of light. Please R&R
