Not just hano; I read Swells' PW columns yesterday and cried.
No tears shed in t'uder direction...
I mentioned to a colleague today how it reminded me of the mawkish Diana faux grief-swamp, and the only thing I remarked upon at that time was that I was sorry for her kids, and the funeral meant completely clear roads for a housemoving day for me!
Ahhh, I hoped it might appeal to others. I only made it a couple of pages through his other PW articles; very hard reading. Especially once I'd read the bit about how he had two young kids. I will read them once I've gathered myself.
He still had it though, his description of the "foot long scented candle of a shit" he had tried to deliver is a spectacular image.
There's something rather brilliant about the line "he is literally my favourite paedophile". One wonders who ranks second.
Swells though - I don't think his style translated to the broadsheets without casualty, but as an influence on tens of thousands of teenage NME readers he was beyond reproach.
Plus he loved Daphne and Celeste, for which alone I would have adored him.
