Thank you for this. This is pretty much where I'm at on second re-watch, but I'm only just out of the cinema and am nowhere NEAR this coherent about it. (I'm more like, "but then GUH, but no because... and then OMG FEELS but WTF communicators and hang on a minute WOW DID THAT JUST... seriously... what?")
THAT scene is considerably more moving on a second viewing, I think. Maybe it's because I noticed much more this time round - I felt, on first viewing, that their relationship hadn't earned that much emotionality (and I'm still not 100% sure it did) - but I was looking for clues as to how much they might mean to each other all the way through this time and I found many more than I expected.
It's not the movie we deserved, but it's the one that we got. And we've had much worse Trek movies than this :-)
(Plus, I watched it with a 7-year-old too, how weird is that? XD)
7 year olds rule. going in for #2 tomorrow or the next. will listen for that sound bite of yours. very. very. carefully. that could make it all worth while. (mostly)
