It was far too hot for a birthday party. The days in July had been especially sultry, what with the heat wave and all, and Harry was just trying to keep cool. He had escaped the throng inside the house and was now sitting underneath the shade of an old elm bordering the Weasley’s’ land. There was a short expanse of garden and unmowed lawn between

I don't think canon!Ginny has this much depth or insight. I think it's more likely she'd have a tantrum, mow Harry down with her broom, and try to hit Hermione with a bat-bogey hex, screaming and ranting and brandishing her wand at anyone who pisses her off (HBP anyone?)
But in this, you actually made me feel sorry for her. It's so painful to have feelings for someone who simply doesn't feel the same way. It really does take a lot of courage to tell the truth and just let go.
Update again soon.

Lol! I really think a lot of fanfic tackles Ginny this way and while I agree with them 90% of the time, the other 10% wants to hope that after DH, Ginny might've grown up some. Hehe, that's the eternal optimist in me ;)
Ginny's part was one of the more difficult things to write so I'm very glad you liked it.

Especially hate how she's trying to rewrite canon now with her all-new "scenes" with Super!Ginny.
New *scenes*? I know Rowling's desperately trying to hang heaps of unwarranted superlatives and labels on her work - like 'soulmates' and the like for H/G - and recently the nonsense about how Ginny heard the voices in the veil and is hence an 'intellectual' (LOL) ... but has she invented entirely 'all-new scenes'?!?!?!?!

I LOVED this line! There are times in fanfics when Harry is written like this dumb, clueless guy (I'm afraid even I have fallen under that, hehe), so I really like that he came to the conclusion that YES, he & Hermione are meant to be together all by himself :)
I remember you telling me that there were bits of MSR slipping in your latest fic, and honey, it is marvelous how well that works in here! ♥ It's very subtle (I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't told me), but that goes to say how awesome our OTPs are :D
I can't wait for the next installment.

Haha...I didn't notice I had written the MSR-y bit at all! The fic I was telling you about is this other WIP I have that's not fit for public consumption yet and is a lot more MSR ;) It's amazing how the subconscious works, doesn't it? And hells yeah, our OTPs are awesome!!!
Thanks for the lovely words, Yen! :)

Me too.
I detest the H/G relationship as it stood in canon, something entirely superficial and based only on the physical side of things. I hated that birthday kiss at the beginning of DH. Little Ginny couldn't think of a useful present for her purported boyfriend so selfishly elects to give him something that she'd enjoy as well. And that would hopefully keep him besotted with her while they were apart. Pfah!
She was so caught up in the fantasy of being the Boy-Who-Lived’s girlfriend
I really do think that explains the laughable performance Ginny gave in the infamous 'breakup' scene at the end of HBP. Ginny saw herself as playing a part, the role of 'damsel left to await the hero's return', something she'd learned by rote since she was a little girl. She'd played the part so many times it had lost any real meaning or emotion; hence the total lack of emotional depth in her performance.

I've mentally blocked that particular scene from DH, just so you know ;)
