In a very starnge way, a disguise perhaps, you were placed into their lives for this very reason. It is not a "fair" situation, nor one that will be easy for you or your heart. You are a strong person and you have worked hard to rid yourself of the behaviors they live with everyday. Perhaps you were given to them for this very reason, because your mother needs you, because you are that beam that makes her smile, that gives her comfort that she knows you are there.
I do not think it is fair for such a "weight" to be placed upon your already full shoulders. However, in the situation as it is, you are holding them up (so to speak) you are keeping things together and for that you will be rewarded, some way.
Regardless it does not make the behavior they choose right. Just because someone chooses to ignore what the facts & reality doesn't make the reality go away. It doesn't wipe the slate clean.
Underneath it all, it still remains.
I have to say that your heart is huge and your mother is lucky to have you.
