The only thing that's sad about it (well, besides the fact that there are bunches of married couples who *didn't* vote for it, who would be affected anyway) is that you would never see actual legal consequences from this - married couples from TX suddenly having their married-filing-jointly tax returns not go through, being turned away from hospitals where they want to sit with their dying spouse, and so forth. Having had friends involved in expensive and headachy legal issues to get rights that myself and other hetero couples can get by signing a form and paying $30 to the local courthouse (or whatever), and then *knowing* that all those people who voted for the amendment aren't in genuine danger of losing their spousal rights, ticks me off.
Icon is in agreement with all of what you said, srsly.
It really makes me angry too, but... I have to stop myself before I get down that bunny path, because I'll get so mad I can't function. I honestly just have to laugh, because otherwise the urge to throw things gets really strong.
OTOH, if they enforced it, my sister-in-law could actually get deported, so while there's a big part of me that says "Hey, see how it feels?" I really, don't want my brother's wife to have to go back to Canada at the same time.
I'm pretty sure nothing will come of it (though it'd really be something if they had to rescind the whole thing to prevent actual problems, and I would totally celebrate), but still: The Revenge of Language Arts!
Any legal blunder that makes these politicians and their nitwit supporters stop and think for a second about what kind of crap they put innocent people through for no good reason, is joy. XD
