This has to be quick because I don't have much time--I'm on a computer at the Wytheville library. Whitney and I have successfully lived through two eight-hour drives and one five-hour drive. Tomorrow we'll be moving her into her dorm at Radford and then Mom and I will drive back down to Burnsville. Whitney and I got to Wytheville yesterday and Mom ( Read more... )

Actually, I really feel like God drop-kicked me into this job. I basically walked in, asked for an application, and was hired before I even finished filling it out. And I had only gone in to the Park Office on a whim! It all happened really fast and took me by surprise. I've heard from people since who say it's really hard to get a job at this park and some people have tried for years to get in.

I guess I'll find out what's next in November...

I still love you, too. :P

Yay! Glad things are working out. I got your voicemail, and yes, I am alive. :p

That's really great about your job. How far is this place from Furman, anyway? Also, remember how we used to tease you about needing to become a park ranger or something? Just found out that my grandmother's friend has a daughter who really does that, and absolutely *loves* it. So, food for thought.

Are you busy September 6? DCI is on ESPN that night, and I was hoping to have a group of people over to watch in the cabin. If you could come down, that'd be cool. :)

It's about an hour from here to Asheville, so maybe two hours to Furman? It all depends on the weather conditions. Sometimes it's so foggy here you can't see more than five feet in front of you. No exaggeration! I would LOVE to come down, but it's loooking like I'll only get Thursdays and Fridays off. I can ask, though.

You'll already be at Furman on the 6th? Guard? I'll definitely get down there sometime.

About the ranger thing... it's a LOT of work, and most of it is administrational (okay, so that's probably not a word...) -- lots of paperwork, law-enforcing, etc. I'm keeping my eyes, open, though. There are lots of similar jobs that don't involve drug busts. :)
