One of the funniest things about getting older is noticing that some of the things that people thought I was "geeky" or "weird" for liking when I was younger are now acceptable or even trendy

Maybe it's just that we're not afraid of getting beat up by the jocks anymore, that sort of thing. That group tends to lose its influence when we all get out in the real world and it's the geeks who are smart enough to go to college and land decent-paying jobs.
There is that. I remember that the jock group did have a large degree of influence in high school. However, I think it's also due to the fact that as we grow up we become more comfortable in our own skin.
For example, I remember that even up to a few years ago, if I went out of town to play in a Magic the Gathering tournament, I'd tell my parents that I was going out of town to visit a friend. These days, I just let my folks know exactly what I'm doing, explain that I'm also going in the capacity of a driver / chaperon for some of the younger kids who also play the game, and that's all that needs to be said.
There's no stigma attached to it or anything. Well, at least not that they've mentioned aloud. Still, even if there was some criticism, I think that I'd still do what I do. I love my parents and I value their opinions very highly but my hobbies are my hobbies. They're part of what makes me... well me :)
I think I've actually met you in person. I was the friend who was visiting Zimmara over Memorial Day weekend. In any case, I'd be honored to have you as a friend.

I'm one of zimarra's friends from Erie. Since you are a fellow nerd/videogame music lover can I add you to my friends list?
