How did I find time to werk?

Jun 02, 2009 10:46

I've been thinking about how busy we've been doing things on the house, traveling to El Paso to see our youngest off to Iraq, doing our regular camping stuff, and how tired of "doing" I am. I wonder how we ever found time to WERK for a living? I don't think I could fit it in right now ( Read more... )

Yer a few years ahead of me Tom but I'm catchin up fast and I know what yer sayin about slowin down and aches and pains in spots I never knew I had.

We had the Realtor over Sunday for a walk through and suggestions of things to do before listing.. can you say carpets/hardwood flooring $$$ Ka-Ching.. can you say kitchen counter tops.. $$$ Ka-Ching.. can you say another four to six weeks to get it on the market and another $10,000 to spend on it so someone else can rip it out cause they don't like the color of type we choose.. it's a NO win deal Tom and it sucks.. oh yeah and it sucks the bank account BIG time also.. $$$ Ka-Ching the painter just gave me her bill for outside and inside complete paint.. $6,400 .. Bet this is going to run me $20 to $25,000 plus before I ever put a sign up on the lawn.

$$$ Ka-Ching the cement refinishing guy is at the door and wants his $3.100 now for the new driveway.. I just sit her and write checks all day Tom.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, that's the way it has been for us too. We've spent well over $10K and the roof will be another $5K or so. None of which we'll really see back when if we sell. I hate buyers' markets for sure.

You better slow down on the spending too!

Ka-Ching for sure. You'll get it all fixed up and decide not to move! LOL

I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but what the hey we gotta live with the cards we're dealt. I need another cruise I think, but no money for one this year. Maybe next year. Katie wants to go on a Hawaiian cruise. We'll see.

I've been sort of lurking around in the background like you do! LOL

Ha ha. You got it. That's retirement, all right. No time. And geezerhood. The treachery of the body. All that leisure but you can hardly move, and when you do, it's at a glacial pace but not flowing gracefully; more like lurching and wincing . . .

Yep, that's me ok! Luckily, so far my wife can do a lot of those things I can no longer do. It's a darned good thing we have health insurance or our regular meds would eat up our retirement.

Did you drive to El Paso?

Activities seem to stretch out to fill the available time. I'm actually trying to fill in five hours today. I ended up with nothing particular to do this afternoon and I don't feel like reading.

However, we'll be back on the road again before long.

And blabbering sort of goes with old age. :)

Yes, we hauled the camper. Discovered that it was ever so much better to take the US highways rather than the Interstates, and had to get a set of tires for the camper on the way back. Other than that it was pretty uneventful. We did get a Garmin which made travel around cities easier, but didn't help much on the US Highways because it either wanted to divert us back to the Interstates, or avoid both.

Hi Tom
You werked hence the reason you fell behind the household upkeeps. Now that you are home more the honey-do list is longer.
At least the werk is for you and not someone else. Maybe kinda sorta.
Take care
Rob

Well, that makes sense. But I sure don't like this having to keep the house spotless to show it to potential buyers all the time. It's like we aren't really allowed to "live" here. LOL
