Alright, so maybe Ben had never gone to college. He went right from high school to working at the garage with Dean, to getting an offer to work at the speedway about an hour from home. And true, he could have stayed living at home but Sammy was getting to be a teenager now and Alec was off in New York... so he got a crappy apartment in the college area and hung out with kids who thought he was one of them ( ... )

"I hate being short," Jordan muttered as she and Haley eeled their way to the front of the line. It had taken a few pretty smiles and a little bit of flirting to get to a place where they could see, and she honestly didn't know how long it would last. All she knew was that she could actually see the track and what was happening.

"Yeah, well -- tall wouldn't do you much good here either," she replied, linking an arm through her friends so that she didn't lose her. "So -- how does this work? They race for money, right?"

"Pretty much. They get in their cars, they drive down the track, winners gloat, losers cry -- " Jordan paused for a moment, before pointing in Ben's direction. " -- that guy's pretty good. The one with the Camero."

She craned her neck around the set of shoulders nearest to her to look, and she gave a bit of a shrug. "Well, at least his music doesn't suck." CCR. She was pretty sure she knew this one on the guitar.

Haley was leaning forward, looking over the two cars carefully, before tilting her head to the side slightly. "So is this where all the drama is?"

"Shhhhhh. It's just getting interesting."

By the time Haley and Jordan arrived at the bar, the place was already crowded with people and the band was doing a sound check. The place wasn't upper class, but it was relatively nice for a bar, and still had a decent amount of room for a dance floor in front of the stage. "Maybe we should get a table," Haley sighed, leaning in close to Jordan's ear as they made their way in.

"Are you driving?" Haley nodded, and Jordan gave her a grin. "Then I'm doin' shots. So -- I think staying at the bar would be advisable."

Haley shook her head with a bit of a grin, before following her friend to the bar and settling on one of the stools. Jordan ordered a round of tequila, and Haley got a diet Coke.

"You know, just once? I'd like to see you drink something with an actual kick to it."

"I have wine with a good meal," she pointed out. "And a beer if I'm home and I don't have to drive. But I don't like hard liquor."

"Uh-huh," Jordan paused long enough to down one of the shots placed in front of her, flipping over the glass before looking ( ... )

Ben had gone home quickly to change. He knew where the bar was because he happened to live in the next block. It was also easier to walk to the place afterward, a quick shower to get rid of the dust and sweat from racing before heading in.

He didn't see Haley at the bar due to the large amount of people, and he arrived after sound check and just as they were starting. Finally he just grabbed a beer from a passing waitress, put a few bucks on her tray and gave her a wink as he leaned against a pillar to listen to the band.

Soon he found himself closing his eyes, letting himself get into the music. Now he could see why Haley wanted him to come for the music. He had really gone for her, but the music wasn't half bad.

It wasn't long before Jordan was starting to feel the shots she was downing. She had always been a semi-lightweight, but she was a pretty cheerful drunk so most people put up with it. Tonight, the antics included singing along rather loudly to the music on stage. Once the first set was finished though, she started actually looking around, and that was when she spotted Ben standing against the pillar.

"Isn't that? Oh, my God, it's Camero Boy!" She grinned slightly, before raising her voice so that she was shouting over the crowd. "HEY! CAMERO BOY!"

Haley's eyes widened, before pulling her friend down so that she was sitting again. "What are you doing?"

"Getting the attention of a guy with a hot car, what does it look like I'm doing?"

Haley rolled her eyes. "You're drunk."

"Yes. I am drunk. And you know what, I might even get laid. Cutting lose is not such a bad thing. Social drinking is good. Getting laid is good. You need to get drunk and laid more often, maybe you wouldn't have such a stick up your ass.""Hey, I get ( ... )

Ben heard "Camero Boy" and opened his eyes, then turned his head to look over the crowd. He saw Haley and a friend over at the bar and chuckled as the hushed discussion between them.

He made his way through the crowd easily and joined them, a small smirk on his face. "You called?" he asked the friend, smelling the tequila almost immediately, then looked over at Haley. "Nice seeing you again, Haley."
