you need to get over this anthony bourdain dude. i know he went on tv and tried to make you look all ghetto, but you need to just get over it and move on.

it should be said that no man is perfect. except one. his name is burt reynolds. but anthony bourdain comes pretty damn close. he's easy on the eyes, is rich, has a cool job and 95% of all ( Read more... )

>you got that name for a reason.
And that reason has to do with a city promotion, i want to say in the 70's? The google would know. In this promotion, literal charms (like for charm bracelets) were manufactured of certain Baltimore landmarks and given away for some reason.

I didn't see the Bourdain thing, but I saw the Mobtown Shank rebuttal where they reprinted some of the irate comments. "Baltimore is not a ghetto!" Well, sure, but it's not a strip of oddball restaurants and boutiques, either, guys. Also, if I am driving more than 3 blocks in any direction, what I'm going to be struck with is probably not all the available jobs in healthcare. It's going to be boarded up houses, torn up streets, and rickety, oddly named businesses. It's kind of an unkeepable secret if someone actually comes to visit Baltimore and leaves the Harbor.

i didn't see the mobtown shank thing, but i heard reactions from people who live there, and i don't really understand it. . . people who live in baltimore are, for some reason, fiercely loyal to baltimore, but at the same time they are very defensive about it (i am one of those people. once got in a small argument in a bar in nyc with a guy who said baltimore was a shithole. turns out he'd only been to cockeysville). but my whole thing is, if you love the city, love the WHOLE city, and if someone comes on tv and perpetuates this myth that all of baltimore is like "the wire", oh well ( ... )

it's funny, because arty white Baltimore is small enough that I am pretty sure I can guess the identity of at least one of the commenters who is reprinted.

Like, i really do enjoy the creative community here in Baltimore, but it's laughable to pretend it's all water ballet and roller derby here.

I saw Bourdain speak recently. I thought he was vapid and pseudo-edgy and boring. His suggestion for solving the obesity epidemic was "Let's make it OK to make fun of fat kids again!"

I've never seen his show or read his books, and I know nothing about the Baltimore segment except that it seemed to make a lot of my FB friends talkative. Just saying: He ain't all that.

i'm sort of indifferent about him. i just know that 95% of my female friends want to nail him.
