SO I went to the visitation at the funeral home, a freakin hour away to pay my respects to the family for their son drowning while I was lifeguarding.  I go and talk to the mom for a while and then find a seat to wait for the father.  He comes in with a few other people who I never got to talk, since when I walked up and introduced my self he

Did you seriously break a rib? Geez. Sorry hun, I don't know what to say really, other than you have my sympathies. I used to lifeguard as well, and something like that happening was always at the back of my mind. I can't imagine how I would cope in your position.

You still did the right thing, going to the funeral. The parents may not understand it, but you still did the right thing.

's what the doctor at the clinic told me. I didn't see the break personally, i did see a crack in it so I'm getting a friend of mine at the hospital to look at my x-rays tomorrow.

It's a big rough but I dunno.. I'm just dealing with it best I can. And after thinking about it, maybe that's all he could do to deal with it. Just needed to blame someone and I was there to be blamed.
