Mr. Cheney is offended that the media reported on the bank info spying program. Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't make any sense.

I can see why he'd be annoyed that the press is making national security type stuff public knowledge (since it means that it's not just Americans who can find out about it once it's public). But when you make it sound like the government is spending all its time spying on everyone in this country, regardless of whether there's an actual reason to do so, you can't get all bent out of shape when people get annoyed about it.

Here's what gets to me about this-

Cheney: "What I find most disturbing about these stories is the fact that some of the news media take it upon themselves to disclose vital national security programs"

Hold on... the news agencies disclosed "vital national security programs"? Someone had to tell them about it first. Why isn't Cheney annoyed at whoever talked to the media? Why is it the media's fault for reporting what was disclosed to them on the record?

If I recall correctly, our Bill of Rights specically states that we have the right to a free press. If something is disclosed to the press, they have the right to print it.

Why isn't he annoyed at the leak? Because the administration doesn't want to take responsibility for anything. A leak would reflect poorly on them, so they would rather blame the media, the liberals, the tree-hugging-hippies, whomever they can use to deflect the attention from what you just pointed out: that someone had to TELL the media about the program in the first place.
