Geek Arguments

Topless Robot has a list of the "10 most famous geek arguments." While I don't entirely agree that these are the "top 10", I can't disagree with most of them. And I've participated in a few of those discussions. So that made me wonder where the rest of you fell on these vital issues.

That isn't entirely true. Nothing may move him, but lots of people have moved the ground he stands on. Then he moves down ;)

I have not encountered a movie that I liked more than the book it was based on- even movies I really like. For that matter, I usually enjoy novelizations of movies as much or more than the movies they are based on.

The original Star Wars books are the exception to that one. hearing or reading "laser sword" still annoys me.

The Harry Potter books are a tough one for me. There are many plot holes big enough to drive a triple decker bus through and she uses the worst magical deus ex machina to resolve problems, but the prose in the books still draws me in. The movies mostly get away from that by cutting out so much of the extra stuff that fills out the books and causes problems. So I suppose they are more or less a draw for me, though the first book was better than the movie so that gives the books the edge for me.

On the other hand, the books are long and do annoy me when I think about it so odds are that I won't reread them. That said, I've seen the movies many, many times. But that is more of a time/convenience factor.

Yes- there was a movie, but it was produced in concert between the two groups that own the separate characters. The movie ended in a draw which is only to be expected since neither company would have made the movie if their guy was going to lose.

The point of the discussion is which one would win if one of them could win ;)

actually as far as i know one group bought the rights to the other character so that they were both owned by the same group by the time the movie was made, and jason clearly one, he ripped freddy's head off. ;)
