Why is it that it seems that loosing your job and loosing your self confidence seem to go hand in hand?

The first hasn't happened quite yet, but I'm expecting it to within the next week or two... the second is already hitting because I see the first happening.

Because a lot of people (right or wrong) associate their job with their sense of self and conclude that if they can't keep the job then there's something wrong with Them to cause this.

If you notice when folks are asked "who are you, or what are you" a lot of times the answer is "I'm a x" where x is their job. It's part of your identity that you're losing, so it makes sense to have an emotional reaction to it. Luckliy that part of your identity is plug-n-play. Have you put in applications elsewhere yet? You have two weeks - might as well start sniffing around now, right? ;)
