At the Exploritorium, there is a small little exhibit where they put 3-5 zebra fish inside a li'l habitat, inside a vertically striped drum. You can control the speed of the drum, and they'll constantly try to keep pace with the particular stripe, maintaining its relative distance. Yeah, they pace you without realizing it. I put on my turn signal and speed up. If they speed up too, I just change lanes and if they don't move, they get hit.

They move.

I had one once who paced me from 50 to 90 and back down to 30. Then I just tried to run her off the road. Annoying as all shit.

Yeah, I get that all the time on my way to and from work. Usually I have to honk my horn to snap them out of their brain dead state. Otherwise I have to slam on the breaks and ninja in behind them.

I've long called this behavior "Speed latching." I'm guessing it is some kind of long harbored herd mentality but it drives me nuts. I make it a point to NOT do that.

It's a well known issue, and one that can be fatally dangerous if you happen to be on a motorcycle. These are the same drivers that flat out wouldn't even see me, and thus why maneuverability is such a high priority for a smaller vehicle.
