i'm glad that you and your brother are on increasingly better terms. that's always nice to enjoy being around your family without worrying in the background.
while you don't need approval, its usually comforting and supporting to have advice or validation from family.
but, if you do not agree, its good to agree to disagree. and, in this particular case, i must say that i am glad you are following your own advice.
