I'm not dead! I swear!

Life, it slays me dead, but I have dragged myself up from the deep to make this post. Cuz I miss all of you.

So, some rambling to catch up on all the things I haven't had the time to comment on.

I saw the Avengers (AMAZING!) twice, and have been reading as much fic as I can on my phone during transit to and from work and in the wee hours of the ( Read more... )

I agree with you about the Howard problem--it was one of the first things my sister said to me after we saw Captain America. Since I am kind of a huge Captain America fan, she expected me to have some kind of answer/justification, which of course is impossible given the timeline.

You can ALMOST make it work if you pretend Tony is in his 40s, like RDJ. RDJ was born in 1965--Cap's movie takes place in 1945, so if Howard was in his early 20s at that time (he seemed older than that to me, but whatever), he would've been in his early 40s when Tony was born. I guess you could even push Howard's age up by a couple of years, putting him in his late 40s when Tony is born, and just accept that the Stark men age exceptionally well. ;)

Man, Steve/Bucky. Have you read a lot of Cap comics? I'm hoping they'll do the Winter Soldier storyline for the next Cap movie, especially since it would tie into Natasha's storyline really well.

And that is so exciting about your baking business! GOOD LUCK!

That's a good way of explaining how Howard might work out, but I was still wondering why 90% of writers seemed to not notice anything was off about it. I remember sitting in the theater after Tony said the line about his dad always talking about Steve and was thinking, 'wait a minute... This makes no sense ( ... )

I actually found the recent Brubaker run on Captain America to be really accessible, and I think it's a great place to start! That's the run that includes the Winter Soldier storyline as well as the Death of Captain America, which grew out of the Civil War crossover. I don't really recommend reading Civil War even though Cap plays a huge role in it, because I didn't really care for the storyline. Otherwise, many of my favorite issues of Captain America were written by Mark Waid in the 90s, though I'll have to go dig around a bit if you're interested in hearing specific issue numbers-the look and feel of his run is a bit dated, but Waid's work with the character, like Brubaker's, is quite solid ( ... )

Thanks! I'll be sure to check those out (once I regain the money I spent on the comic I just bought after finding a comic store not too far from my house. Goodbye spending money. So worth it.)

I own a couple of books from Civil War, but only because some characters that I don't see much of otherwise are in them, and ignored the rest of the series(I was not fond of the events at all.)

Your comic philosophy is very similar to mine, then! :D

I totally understand that. I'm not a fan of Steve/Tony (a rarity, it seems) but some of them are so well thought out I read them anyhow.

MIB3 was perfection. I mean sure, its one of those movies where you have to ignore previous movie Canon and shut your brain off to keep from facepalming repeatedly.

But I adored it. :D

Yeah, I pretended it was an AU future of the first two and it was all good. Still ridiculously fun to watch!

Oh, wow! Your own bakery! Good luck! Can you ship cake to Texas? :D

I had the same feeling about Tony's dad. Unless Stark Sr. was in his very early 20s and just looked older, I also couldn't see how it could have matched up. It's possible that the film in IM 2 was from the very early 70s, and that Howard had Tony very late, but that's still stretching it.

But yeah, Avengers was awesome. :D

Thanks! I can't ship cakes, sadly, but maybe cookies. ;D

Yeah, it's hard to make the stretch and say there's a legit reason for Howard to be Tony's dad (I still vote for grandpa Howard!) *shrug* Ah well.
