"Aspies are like a blue strawberry, such a magnificent creation that you admire it's originality and look at it in awe... but then what do you do with it?"
I've seen that quote before, maybe in my developmental psych class. :) I like the quote, but then it also seems to suggest a manner of hopelessness, which as a teacher I have a hard time with (since I always want to be able to help my students).
At the school in Ypsi where I am observing/pre-teaching right now, there are at least 4 Aspies in his classroom throughout the day (I say "at least" because they're the only ones that have been evaluated and diagnosed, but there might be 1 more). 2 of them post little problem to the learning process, because reading is something that they like to do. However, the other 2 have severe reading difficulties, and considering what I have seen in class, I do not understand why they have not been recommended for another class or for some sort of assistive technology to help them along.
Yea that amazing device where kids who can't pass a simple test are not failed... but the test is changed so school doesn't fail... to hell with if the kids know anything or not.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the quote! :)
