I have been fooling around with spinning. Also--I have two bags of alpaca fur that is going to be kind of (more) challenging to spin--the fibers are really short. Can you use something like that?

I tried spinning once.... it went badly. I take it you are having more luck with it than I did? ;-) I still have an unused drop spindle and a bag of beautiful natural dyed wool (tragically superwashed, so it can not be used for felting).

According to my sources, alpaca will felt very well, but is slippery. Since I am still very much a beginner, I'm not sure how that would work out. If it doesn't work for you though, I'd be happy to give it a whirl. ;-)
