So I finished Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box last night. It was so cute! The ending was so sweet and sad. I admit, I did get a bit teary eyed.
I think as far as story goes, I prefer Diabolical Box over Curious Village. It was a bit more believable than the first one, and I think flowed better. I loved the first one, but it did leave me with a 'wait...that didn't really make sense' feeling. I also liked that you got to explore more than one town, and how the puzzles fit more neatly into the storyline. However there were some references to Curious Village that were not explained at all, and may have left some new timers confused. For instance, the villain from the first game showed up for about 5 seconds, and then wasn't heard from again. Definitely could have been incorporated better. There were hints things that will hopefully be explained in the third game. Like in the beginning Luke introduces himself as the apprentice of Professor Layton, who then tries to correct Luke, but is interrupted. So if Luke is not Layton's apprentice, then what is their relationship? It was not explained.
I think overall the puzzles were much harder than in the first game. Towards the end, the hints would say: "Well, this is much more fun if you figure it out on your own. So how about a fun fact instead?! Oh, and don't waste your other hint coins, because the other hints are just trivia as well." What the hell? I save up all my hint coins and don't ever use them till the end of the game, and then they go and CHEAT ME! I was not happy.
Even so, I loved it, as I did the first one, and I can't wait to play the third when it comes out. Time Traveling, woohoo!
I'm taking a bit of a break from playing A Witches Tale. It has a lot of aspects that I ADORE. Halloween, Alice in Wonderland, cute art, and the first level is candyland themed. I like the battle system. BUTT. Each level is basically a repeat of the last, with different settings. Complete the mini quests, solve the puzzle/ maze of the castle, and save the queen by defeating her berserker servant. I got a bit tired of it, but whether that is due to its repetitiveness or the fact that I played THE HELL out of it when i first bought it ... who knows? As far as a $20 DS game, though, I am really pleased with it.
Also been playing a bit of Katamari Damacy lately. I thought that game could do no wrong, but I was INCORRECT. Kevin gave me Beautiful Katamari and Katamari Forever for Christmas. Apparently, only Sony can make a decent KD. Beautiful Katamari on the 360 is SO HARD. You roll sooo slooowly in that game, and it doesn't help that the 360's controller have wonky analog sticks. The art style has changed a bit. The King's outfit looks dumb, and he is not muscular at all - verging on feminine curves. Like he let himself go after the last game (and no skin tight pants in this game to show off The Package Of All Cosmos, lol). Unlike the Sony games, there are no mini movies. Nope, no rewards for your hard work, no breaks, just lots of rolling. However it is a KD game, so I can't bring myself to hate it.
Katamari Forever is a lot more like the originals. The king is wearing nice cheesy skin tight outfits again. There are TWO sets of mini movies to watch, one for Roboking, and the other the King. Yay~ I really love some of the themes for each roll. I do still have some problems with this game, though.
The Kings levels are all repeats from the originals, but in black and white. Ugh. But I can deal with the monotone. The thing that bothers me it that it is a fake-out copy. It is just pretending to be the original, the stages have actually been altered a great deal/ There is SO MUCH LESS to roll in these versions, and I have noticed that the items change up a bit each time you play. I guess there are less things to even out the "hearts" that you can pick up in each level, but it is still very frustrating. It makes it very hard to get a decent score.
Many of Roboking's levels are slightly altered versions from Beautiful Katamari. Except much easier to get around, and generally more fun. The game is still harder than the originals. I haven't figured out yet if you need to roll up the hearts to get a good score. *shrug*
ALSO playing Loco Rocco. Pretty fun. Simple. Frustrating a few times. Not too much to say about it yet.
Tried to play Little Big Planet. I think the intro is ADORABLE, and I LOVE the concept behind it. But the controls? BITCHES. I found myself doing that little kid thing where you throw your whole body into your characters moves. I haven't given up on it yet. I can't so quickly dismiss an obstacle type game with DRESS UP and STICKERS!!!
Boy. It really seems like I have played a lot lately.
I'm proud of myself.
