I dearly hope that your newspaper is not representative of modern journalism graduates. Did they layoff their copyeditors?
Back on the topic of dual screens...
1. You're lucky. UCI only gives people single monitors in CS labs.
2. I hope there is a massive backlash from people in the CS department.

I think in general a campus newspaper has more prestige than it deserves. Ours is notorious (misquotes, misspellings, misreporting...) even among alumni.
None of the undergrad CS labs have dual monitors (I wish they did!); there are only a couple of labs with them (in, I think, mostly liberal-arts buildings) and the occasional professor's workstation.

Ah, I see. Whenever I have a lab session, I unscrew the VGA cable from the CPU and screw it into my laptop. Instant second screen! :)
