Dear fellow techies,

Somebody on campus noticed all the computer labs with dual monitors and decided that was a pointless way to waste energy. (From an editorial in the campus paper:)

ITaP should consider partnering up with Boiler Green Initiative more often. There are many issues besides printing in computer labs on campus that could be fixed with prudence. For ( Read more... )

I see that it was written by the newspaper's editorial board.

Please allow me to drown the board's members in red ink.

I dearly hope that your newspaper is not representative of modern journalism graduates. Did they layoff their copyeditors?

Back on the topic of dual screens...
1. You're lucky. UCI only gives people single monitors in CS labs.
2. I hope there is a massive backlash from people in the CS department.

I routinely mark up that silly paper for errors. I really don't think they have a copy editor.

I think in general a campus newspaper has more prestige than it deserves. Ours is notorious (misquotes, misspellings, misreporting...) even among alumni.

None of the undergrad CS labs have dual monitors (I wish they did!); there are only a couple of labs with them (in, I think, mostly liberal-arts buildings) and the occasional professor's workstation.

True.

Ah, I see. Whenever I have a lab session, I unscrew the VGA cable from the CPU and screw it into my laptop. Instant second screen! :)

Ignoring the article, which made my fingers twitch for the red pen, I now want a second monitor. I get so tired of copying and pasting without being able to watch something or whatnot as I do so.
