Phew. Earlier, LJ didn't want to post this for some reason and I was afraid I'd lost it. Hooray for saving drafts!

Wow. I think I can identify with your reaction somehow, the sudden realisation that yes, this thing you've loved doing for so long CAN make absolute sense and blow your mind away AND give a huge chunk of your life so much more meaning and enjoyment and challenge. I found that with classical dressage. I keep turning up another explanation, or another training moment or theory that makes me go "YES!" And yet it's not shown enough, so many horse people have turned away and ignore it. Definitely not as profound as feminism and the loss of women throughout the ages (never thought of it that way, very interesting), but still similar in some way to your experience ( ... )

Aha! 'Feminist' is a dirty word, isn't it? Nobody wants to be called it because it seems to mean 'man-hater'. The more I get into the history of it all, the more I'm finding that that characterization is wildly unfair and unproductive. It's supposed to be that middle point you're talking about -- every self-identifying feminist I've ever heard from says the same. Otherwise it's back to sexism ( ... )
