Writers, this is your last full month to write on your stories.  Please remember that all rough drafts are due May 1st, 2011 at midnight your local time.

I will be making a post the last week of April to give a "where to send"; I'm going to be making an e-mail solely for this purpose :) I hope everyone is having fun. Even if we only turn out with ( Read more... )

Anyone else writing for this?? I have some 4,000 words at the moment and a tentative title: "Only You"

Here is a random teaser near the front at the moment:

I can still see in my mind’s eye as clearly as though I were looking at a Muggle moving picture the curve of his wide beautiful mouth, the rosy blush across high cheekbones visible under a light suntan as he cocked his head laughing at something Professor Bagshot had said. He took her elbow in his hand to give her balance on the rocky path with the accustomed ease of a person who knows how to use attentiveness to charm. Gellert could make any companion feel for a wonderful moment frozen in time that they were the focus of his entire universe.

"Do you know who he is?" Ariana asked. "I think they must be coming here."

"I have no idea who he is. But I had better put my trousers on and go downstairs to let them in."

"I'll stay up here,” she said. “I don't like her and he has scary strong magic. I can feel it prickling on the back of my neck. He is very pretty though."

I am writing!

I like this snippet, and I am excited to see more for it. At 4,000, you're almost half way there :) I believe! Is everything going well for you?

Slow and steady is an okay way to write for some, and it sounds like you're one of them. I have a hard time spewing out rough drafts myself, but I've taught myself to do it. Too many years of NaNoWriMo. Your rough draft is due on May 1st, but you don't actually have POSTING until June 10th. So, basically, just get within 500 words of that 10K goal (even if you're not completely done with the story) by May 1st and you'll be okay. You can continue to write on your story up until the day that you post it. If it gets to your posting day and you're still having trouble, e-mail me. We'll come up with something ( ... )

This is great! I love the twinkle part! It made me laugh, and yet, it is a serious reflection upon Dumbledore. There has to be some treasure to mine behind the candy and the smiles and the twinkle of the earlier HP books in the series. I'm thinking that Dumbledore is not anywhere near as straightforward as the young man that GG knew in their youth. For me he is definitely one of JKR's most complex characters.

It's kind of a twist on how I read the cannon of their early days also. The confident and smiling Grindelwald has turned grumpy and less sure of himself and the tentative, somewhat insecure Dumbledore is the confident and cheerful one in this vignette. Looking forward to where you are going with this.

Albus by this point has grown in himself and Gellert has . . . well, grown less sure of himself. I'm certain being locked in a prison for forty years has a habit of doing that to you. I see Dumbledore as an insanely complex character. There are many, many layers to him. I'm hoping the story will show this :)

can't wait to see what comes from this! judging from the snippets, it's going to be good! :D

as for posting to the G/D forum, i think that's a good idea. you could also send an email to daily snitch, though i forget their exact rules on what they will post in regards to reminders about fests and deadlines.
