Everybody I've been speaking to have been in the throes of paranoia and terror, but I don't happen to see much else different than what's been happening since I arrived. It's simply in a... let's say, a more obvious fashion. Apples have fallen in our Eden, and the serpents are out to kill. That's heavy handed symbolism if I've ever seen it ( Read more... )

avoidance is the best way to adapt, bibles scare me, run awayyy, girls just wanna have fun, y so srs?

You are referring to Genesis?

There is good reason to be cautious. The longer we stay here, the more knowledge we gain, and the more knowledge we gain, the more danger we are in.

Yeah. You're one of the few that recognizes I was talking about the Bible.

The Bible is a cultural artifact. It's possible other worlds didn't possess the historical figures and situations necessary for it to be written.

I suppose that makes sense, yes. It's a bit hard to imagine a world without the Bible, though, but judging from everything I've seen, you're right.

Yes, it's always a little disconcerting when people can't recognize such basic aspects. It's hard to tell if they are just ignorant or if it's something their world truly lacks.

At the same time, it helps identify who is from which world.

The absence of the Bible, I can understand. What I find hard to believe is the absence of religion entirely.

It does. Has anybody kept count, yet? It's a bit hard to tell, aside from the walking, talking creatures who I'm certain are most definitely not from my world.

More likely than not, there is some sort of equivalent of the Bible in the other worlds. Even with the presence of science people cannot seem to let go of such illogical beliefs.

I am not aware of anyone who has attempted to document the different worlds. It would be a risky endeavor.

What is your name?

Ah, I see that you are not one for religion. Although you say that, though, I do believe that there's one woman who responded to me who didn't quite believe in it. She seemed adamant that the meaning of life was to have purpose, and no religious man would say that.

Documenting even where we came from is dangerous? I'm beginning to lose track of what is safe and what is not, here. It's a fine, fine line.

Grift. My name's Grift. It's a pleasure to meet you, Aurora.

I am not fond of it in the least. It makes people irrational and fight holy wars that could have been easily avoided. I do not think natural life was created with a purpose, either. The universe came to be through pure chance and favorable circumstances, nothing more. Who is the woman you are referring to?

Anything connected to who we are is dangerous. Such documentation would help others from the same world find each other, increasing their chances of regaining their memories. This is something the tree, or whoever controls it, seems to dislike. The more ignorant we are, the more peaceful it is.

It is nice to meet you as well, Grift.

[Pause.]

I admit to not being learned enough to speculate as to how the world came into being, but what you say sounds familiar. I'm talking about Handmaiden. [He draws a small arrow up to her comment.]

You're right. That means we oughtn't discuss it here. But still... it would be useful.

You probably know it as the "Big Bang theory."

Haidmaiden is rather strange. Her writing implies that she is from a learned and sophisticated background, but her ignorance contradicts this. Perhaps her world is a good example of the point I made earlier.

In my opinion, the gain would outweigh the risk. One would just have to be clever about it.
