OK, whoever decided it was necessary to write a page-long "diversity statement" to apply for teaching positions is an asshole. I mean, I understand why they'd want to weed out racists & bigots & all, but you'd think that the question on the application entitled: "Explain how you are qualified 'to understand and be sensitive to the diverse academic

i'd agree except for one thing: colleges have a long history of discrimination. of course this makes it very difficult on those of us who are white males. the search process for the position that i "temporarily" hold has gone on far too long since the pool for "techie" hires is not very diverse at all.

I'm not gonna jump on the reverse discrimination ship, but it is getting a bit annoying when half an application seems to be about proving that you can interact with people different from you, rather than proving you're qualified for the position.
