"I should have bought the red corvett." part1

Church Falls

Admiral Chegwidden's office

AJ looked out his office window. He was worried about his old friend, Walter Skinner. Maybe he should have been more insistent instead of getting rattled by his friend's confession. After so many years who would have thought it? He sure as hell hadn't seen it coming.

He just couldn't wait to hear how Walter would let it all play out.He stared at the phone. Maybe he should call and see how he was doing. They'd spent some time together this weekend. Since AJ's better half had been out of town, he had taken the opportunity to hangout with Walter. He had not seen his friend for almost six months and had looked forward to catching up.

Turning up at Walter's apartment, AJ had been surprised at the state his friend was in. It was as though all the light had gone out of his eyes. Sure he'd seen his friend at the worst times of his life but this was different. The bone dry loneliness AJ himself knew so well had taken possession and only a shell was left in it's wake.

It hadn't taken AJ long to get to the root of the problem. It seemed that old Walter had been having hidden desires that had begun to show it's - in Walter's opinion, - *ugly* face. AJ still remembered his friend's horrified statement as he revealed his inner most desires. The facts were easy to relay, it was the emotions that were difficult to unveil. To say that Walter had been shocked, when AJ offered his "expertise" in helping him getting acquainted with male lovemaking, was to put it mildly.

He's own admission of his sexuality to Walter months ago had brought the other man's desire to the forefront. AJ had wrongly thought that the foreign glint in Walter's eyes was because of him and his friends unspoken disapproval. It had never occurred to him that it had not been directed at him. AJ sighed to himself as he acknowledged his feelings of guilt. If he'd confronted Walter with his suspicion months ago, he could have helped him before it had gotten to this point. Instead he'd avoided his friend feeling hurt by the believed condemnation. Well it was always easy to look upon a problem in hindsight.

AJ headed for the phone, he'd decided to call another old friend. A friend with whom he hoped Walter would seek help.

"Darnell's Agency may I help you?"

"Yes, could I please speak to Connie?"

"And you are, sir?"

"It's AJ." He was relieved to be put through to the private line.

"Hi AJ, how are you? It's been some time."

"It sure has. I'm fine and you?"

"I'm doing fine, just started dating if you can believe it."

"I'm so happy to hear that."

"So AJ, how can I help you?"

"Oh you're so sure I need help?"

"Yes. Here I was sure you'd never need my services again. What happened to that handsome man of yours?"

"We're still together and I'm retiring in a few months. We're going to live together."

"Don't you forget to invite me to the wedding. If all is well, then what do you need my help for?"

He'd know Connie for years. She hadn't always been in this line of work. Her husband's suicide had prompted her to start the club. Connie had not known or admitted to herself that she was married to a bisexual. An escort he'd had an affair with had ended up blackmailing him. Seeing no way out he had killed himself. The Darnell Agency (or the "Club" among it's members), provided safe male escorts. The screening process was more severe than the background check for an FBI or NSA agent. In principle it matched men that had an equal amount to lose, thereby minimizing the risk of blackmail. All in all it was ideal for high placed officials.

"I never could hide from you could I. I need Will."

"Why?"

"It's not for me but a friend of mine."

"AJ you know I can't promise you, Will. You know he has a lot of rules that need to be met."

"Believe me Connie this guy is right up his alley. Just tell him I'll appreciate this as a personal favour to me."

"But you know Will would like to see this person before making a decision."

"It has to be Will, Connie. It's very important to me. Walter is a very old friend and I can promise you that he's safe, as a matter of fact he's as safe as they come. He's also new at this and very insecure about it, so I don't trust anyone with him but Will. As for looks you can tell him he's almost my twin, that should do it."

"Okay I can promise I'll talk to him, but no more than that."

"Thank you Connie, I'd like to be kept informed on the progress of this mission."

AJ heard his door being opened and someone entered quietly. A smile spread across his face, it could only be his special someone.

"And if it'll help give him my new mobile number he can call anytime."

"Will do. Don't be a stranger handsome."

"Talk to you later." AJ disconnected.

He hadn't put the receiver down before he was enveloped in a warm embrace from behind. AJ sighed in contentment when his lover's soft lips met his neck.

"Welcome back love."

"Did you miss me?"

"Of course I have. Do you even have to ask."

"How did your *boys night out* go?"

"It could have been better."

"What happened? Did he give you a hard time because of me?"

"No, actually it turned out that we have more in common than I thought possible. Harm, I have been doing him an injustice by not confronting him on my suspicions. It seems that not only was he not opposed to me sleeping with a man, in fact, Walter has been interested in sleeping with men for years, but because of his circumstances he hasn't be able to take the ultimate step."

"What did you do?"

"Hell, Harm I couldn't let him down, he's the best friend I have."

"So what did you do?"

"I....I offered myself and my services." He looked pointedly at Harm as he said it.Harm smiled as he said " You know I wouldn't have expected any less from you....So..." He grinned and with a twinkle in his eyes he asked. "Can I watch?"

AJ grinned. "Well, actually I told him that if he wanted it I could ask you to do the honour."

"You what!"

"You can take it easy he said there was no way he could do that."

"Why? What's wrong with me am I losing my appeal or some thing?"

"No he thought it would be really awkward for him. I referred him to Connie, that was her on the phone. I asked her to make sure Walter was well cared for...I asked her to set him up with Will."

"You think setting him up with a prostitute is wise? I mean having sex for money is kinda cold. I think he needs some warmth and a lot of TLC. I think I'm looking like a better candidate by the minute. He is so much like you I could do it."

"Oh yeah, it'll really boost his confidence have you scream out my name in the heat of passion."

"Admit it you just don't want me to sleep with him after all. So Will it is, what's with that guy anyway? "

"Will is different."

"How?"

"Well, he didn't do it for the money, he did it for the sex for one thing, got a real kick out of playing *prostitute* and this way was some how safe for him. He's a very caring man, in some way I felt very ... Loved when I was with him."

"Loved! Should I be jealous AJ?"

"Actually no. Will does have a special place in my heart, after all he was the first man I've been with. But he also made me realize my feelings for you, he made me acknowledge them. Hell he even told me how to seduce you!"

"Maybe Will can do the same for Walter."

"I doubt that, but even if he did it wouldn't do any good. At least he'll be able to keep Walter from going out of his mind."

"How come?"

"That's a long story I'll have to tell you another time. You'd better get out of here before people start talking." He turned in Harm's arms and smiled into his lover's face. AJ leaned in closer nibbling the younger man's lower lip, sucking it into his mouth and biting it gently before slipping his tongue into a waiting hot wet cave meeting it's counterpart. The kiss ended all to soon.

"We can't have that, Harm, at least not yet."

"I know only two months to go."

"Yes and I almost can't wait."

"Are you sure you'll be able to stand retirement? And not bore yourself to death?"

"With you in my bed! Never, I'll need the days to get some much needed rest."

"You bet! We're still on for tonight, right?"

"We sure are." AJ leaned in for a quick kiss. "Now get out of here, you've got work to do young man." He growled trying to sound and look stern, unsuccessfully in quelling the twinkle in his eyes.

"I love you, Harm."

"Love you too big guy. See you later."

"You can count on it Cmdr."

Before Harm left the office, he turned and flashed his flyboy smile in his lover's direction. Well knowing what that smile would do to AJ.

"Oh Boy! AJ you're in big trouble, two months is going to be a long, long time."

He said out loud to an empty office. As he looked down to his tenting dress pants.

The Edgar Hoover Building

AD Skinner's office.

Walter was sitting behind his desk lost in his thoughts, as he turned a card in his hand.

// So what are you gonna do old man?// He sighed to himself, thinking of his old Vietnam buddy that had given him the card. Maybe he should take AJ up on his offer and get rid of the card.

"If you don't want to use the card Walter, I'd be happy to help you out, just call me, okay buddy?" AJ had said.

With a gentle pat on his back he'd left Walter's apartment last weekend. Ever since, chaotic thoughts had gone through Walter's mind and it looked like it wasn't going to let up soon. What was a man to do? What had prompted this in the first place? Boredom! Well that was a big part of it. Work had been his whole life and that was quickly running out in the sand. It was just not the same now Krycek was dead and no longer a threat. No consortium to hide from. Scully had the baby and was on leave. Dogget was running the x-files in his own sceptic way, Kersh, his boss from hell was getting on his nerves. And no Mulder to spice up his days, no one knew what happened to him, he'd just packed up one day and was gone. Everything was more or less gone. Maybe he should do as Mulder, pick up a bag and just leave.

"Yeah!"

He said out loud to himself. Then sighed to himself as he realized that he really had no where to go. He also had nothing to lose anymore, nothing left to stop his pursuit if not of happiness then at least fulfilment of his long buried desire.

"So maybe it is time to take a chance. Yes let's do it!"

Walter picked up the phone and hesitated for just a second. With a quick look at the card he dialled the number. The phone rang on the other end a couple of times. Walter was about to give into the urge to hang up when it was answered by a soft spoken woman.

"Darnell's male escort service. May I help you?"

"Ahh...Yes you may, miss." Silently wishing that his voice would stop braking so he didn't sound so pathetic. "Ah... I was wondering if I could have an escort this up coming weekend?"

"Yes sir, that could be arranged. I need a name and credit card number. And your preferences."

"Well, I was told I could be anonymous, but if I was wrongly informed I'm sorry for taking up your time miss."

"Oh yes, you can but I'll need a reference then , the name of the referral and the code sir."

"Chegwidden and the code is Chemistry."

" What do you want to call yourself sir?"

"Just Walt."

"Okay Walt, this is how it works. Why don't you tell me what you expect and call me back on this number again tomorrow after noon. I'll have your references checked by then. You need to let me know what hotel you're staying at. For how long will you need the service?"

"The whole evening and night."

"That will be $3000 cash. Leave it at the Hotel desk in an envelope and be sure to leave a note as well with the room number, Okay? When the amount has been confirmed your companion for the night will arrive."

"Thank you, miss."

"You're very welcome. Now tell me, sir, what you're looking for."

Walter had quickly given the information, his face had turned a deep crimson and to his horror he'd stuttered a little when the lady behind the phone, had zoned in on the fact that this was his first time in more ways than one. Now all he had to do was find a hotel room and not just any one, the service requested a four or five star Hotel for some odd reason.

Saturday Night

Sheraton Hotel; Washington DC.

Walter was pacing, in fact he'd been pacing for a good half hour now.

"I can't do this. Shit maybe I should have taken AJ up on his offer...Maybe I still can."

Walter picked up the receiver only to put it down again. Recommencing his pacing.

"Oh no I can't do this."

Again he headed for the bedside table to the phone. Before he could get there, a knock sounded on the door. Being in a hurry to get it over with, he tripped over his feet and slammed into the wall. Walter cursed all the way to the door while he massaged his sore shoulder. The trepidation was now replaced with irritation and some anger at himself for acting so out of character. Hell, he was an ex-marine and an AD of the FBI he could take this. No-one and nothing was going to rattle him. With that thought in mind he jacked open the door and his resolve fell to the floor.

"Shit what are you doing here?" His bark soon deflated.

"I guess you're not too happy to see me."

Walter had frozen for a moment, he then shook himself and looked into the hallway noting no one else was around. He grabbed the other man by his shirt and hauled him inside the room, kicking the door shut behind him.

For a moment they just stood there looking at each other. Walter was the first to break the silence.

"So how are you doing? It's been a while."

"I'm doing okay and you?"

"I'm good." There was another moment of silence." Well, it's been nice seeing you but ... ah...I really need to go."

Walter was nervously eyeing the time, the escort could get here any minute. He desperately needed to end this conversation, hell he could use this opportunity to get out of this damn situation he'd put himself in. They could go to the bar downstairs and have a drink. Walter was interrupted before he could ask.

"Walter relax you were suppose to expect me."

"I was?"

Now he was really confused, his desperate mind was screaming at him to get the hell out of there, and it seemed to take up all of his thinking capability. Now there was nothing left to process what the other man was saying.

"Why don't we go down stairs and have a drink on me, huh?"

He grabbed the others arm forcefully in his eagerness to get out of the room that was closing in on him fast. The resulting yelp didn't deter him, if he heard it at all.

"Walt!! Stop it!" The arm was reclaimed by its owner. "Get a grip Walt. Don't you get it? I'm the one!"

"The one?" Confusion was still evident in the AD's eyes.

"Yes, Darnell sent me!"

"Darnell?"

"Darnell's agency sent me here to fuck you Walter."

"What the hell are you talking about? Is this some sort of sick joke?"

"No this is not...." He was rudely cut off.

"Shit! How the hell did you find me here anyway?" Walter was getting really angry. "Did you spy on me? Well did you, Mulder?"

"No I didn't Darnell really did send me."

Walter was now staring at Mulder in disbelief.

"Please tell me you're pulling my leg."

The younger man pulled out an envelope and threw it on the table.

Walter recognized the envelope as the one he'd left at the desk downstairs.
