Thinking in snippets

I've been putting off an update, wanting inspiration to strike so I could properly write up the various wonderments that have happened over the last two weeks. Per usual, when you wish for a muse, she stays far, far away.

And so, in brief:

The Find A Home Tour started with a trip to a land far, far away...that being the Pacific Northwest. A ( Read more... )

We missed you too, BUT!!! When we come out in Jan/Feb, we are making a point of scheduling a few days up North with you, eh? I miss Vancouver and Steven's never been to Cananananandia, so! Allons-y!

I'm a Kansan who moved to Seattle in 1997 and I LOVE IT. Although, I've got to say, if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder, the winter is GRIM. Some years are worse than others, but I have experienced winters where there were 90+ consecutive days of rain and no sun.

The other thing that sucks about Seattle is the traffic and concurrent crappy public transportation. If you live near where you work, it's not a big problem, but if you are trying to commute from, say, North Seattle to Redmond (total distance 14 miles), it will take more than an hour. Bleah.

Also, do you want to buy a house? I have one for sale.

Thanks for the information! You summed up pretty much all the cons everyone else has told us. Honestly, I think you're right -- our concept of traffic is entirely skewed by NYC, so I don't think that would be a massive problem for us (it took me 45-50 minutes to commute just over nine miles at my last job...by public transit, even!). We shall see what the next few months brings.

Your house is gorgeous -- wish we could come by to check it out as I am desperate to buy a house (any house!), but it's still early days. Thanks, though.

Glad to hear your opinion of Portland. Last fall, when I moved here, it seemed like every hipster and his Lily Allen CD were packing up and moving to Portland. All anyone talked about was P-land. A colleague recently relocated there and said it's ridiculous how it's become this hipster invasion.

I hear ya on Seattle. I fell in love with it when I visited a few years ago and I'm looking forward to my next trip there in November. It seems to have the best of both worlds - urban downtown AND outdoors. The only thing that might not be awesome is that downtown is small and closes early. Seems like a houseparty town to me and you have to work at finding the right people to hang with because it's so spread out. And it's far away from everything else in the US except Alaska.

Forget Baltimore. It's the armpit of the USA and there's no industry there.
