My Kit won a blue ribbon today, herding ducks. This is a triumph for us because she refused to work ducks until well over age 11. (Ducks can be a lot more intimidating than sheep.) Congratulations on Kit's success! My own BC cross will be 10 this year, but she still running around the yard like a mad thing when she feels like it, which is good. One thing I always liked about the breed, they are so often still 'young' (or think they're young) years past the time that many other dogs start shoeing their age.

Re' the romance - I wonder if the author is a HP fan who likes Snape? ^~

That's been my experience with border collies, too. Alaster McRae's Nan was still winning international competitions at 11. I've found I have to watch my old girl carefully, because she doesn't have the sense to slow down.

I have gotten the feeling that the author of the romance is a Snape fangirl. When you think about it, that makes total sense. I bet a number of authors have that "guilty pleasure."

Congratulations about your dog and the ducks! Mine is just learning to fetch a stick and we think she is a genius, haha.

That Romance novel sounds wild - A Snape-ish teacher and Anna Nicole Smith! That deserves an award for the odd couple of the year.

My prediction is that in 2008, there will be a lot of Snape-types showing up in romance novels. The vampire thing is getting old.
