Shouldn't you say, "they" since it's a colony?

I guess it would be they....is they the plural of it? I guess the question would be...is IT a colony?...or are They a colony?

in either case...the Acan is doing well, this picture doesn't show how bright the orange is

They as a colony make up it, the Acan. I think that's the way I'm thinking of it, the sentence, grammatically. Thanks, I did enjoy seeing the images with all the different creatures. :-)
