The Case for Obama: Part 3 of 3

Jan 09, 2008 17:32

Andrew Sullivan published an excellent essay in the Atlantic last month, when Obama was far behind in the polls and it looked like we might have a Giuliani-Clinton race on our hands, that cast him as the bridge between the baby boomers ( Read more... )

Yeah you're basically right. I just hear Thomas Frank's midwestern twang in my head saying, "Don't trust these people who talk about unity!. All the same I'm probably leaning towards Obama these days. Though I'm glad Clinton won the NH primary- I think a good race is better for the party than a coronation.

Agreed on all counts, even though I was initially very disappointed last night.

I think we have to try to trust people talking about unity- or at least give them a damned chance.

Yeah, well... he's clearly a very different guy, Obama, but I associate unity-talk on the Democrat side with Joe Lieberman...

I tried to comment to the first of these posts the other day,but it wouldn't let me. At any rate, all I was going to say was:

"Hear, hear!"

I think I maybe had a broader point at that time, but I seem to have forgotten it somehow.

No problem- glad it was informative.

I think people are drawn to his charisma first and then they look into his content and find it worthy of their support. Like I've said, I don't think charisma is something we should discount or write off, but I think people are right to be wary of it until they've looked into his voting record and policy plans, and done the research.

I am glad to see the continuing rise of socialism with American characteristics; hopefully one day soon we can all have government provided health care; laws which forbid donations to political campaigns; and have Osama, good old Kimmy and the president of Iran over to the Whitehorse for a nice little chat on how America is raping the world. Oh, and could we have the fairness doctrine back too?

I'm going to delete any comments you can't be bothered to sign your name to after this one, Jesse.

By the way, there are no laws that forbid donations to political campaigns. America is being raped by lobbyists and our Constitution dismantled from top to bottom. Companies like Halliburton and Blackwater don't just represent a threat to democracy- they are helping to ruin it right now.

I don't care who you vote for, Jesse, but you of all people should be horrified by a private standing army accountable to no one but the president. I would worry about fascism before you worry about socialism, that is, your neighbors not dying of things like pneumonia in the richest country on earth.
