So, I'm preparing for my presentation on White identity development. Which I have to give tomorrow morning. I really like thinking about Whiteness, my class however, was not so fond of the topic last time it came up. In fact, somebody yelled at me. I didn't even really say anything, well, obviously that's not true, but I didn't say anything

The person who said "I just felt uncomfortable reading this, so I didn't think it was useful" reminds me of somebody in my Ethics:The Great Traditions class who said, referring to our animal rights/welfare discussion, "I didn't like it because it made me think about stuff." I think even if these people - and sometimes I'm probably one of them, without meaning to be! - react negatively to things that challenge their way of thinking, the seed of a new idea is still planted in them. That's why I like it when people say things like that.
