looks like a nightcap to me.

doesn't look right for a lady's coif - or even for a typical nightcap! Is it just 2 flat pieces? Was it maybe "repurposed" from something bigger like a jacket?

Pretty pretty colors, however it started life....

Yes, it looks like a guys cap style to me - as well. It is very singular if it is a woman's cap
